With the colors of Spring beginning to bloom, we’re already dreaming of Summer sun and our next big adventure! Now is the perfect time to begin the planning stages of your dreamy summer vacation. Whether you are traveling solo, with your BFF or the whole family, we have 3 ideas that will work for any troupe of explorers. We’ll take a look at some of our favorite vacation destinations which include a summer in the City in Tokyo, a European holiday in Rome, and finally a beach getaway in the Grand Cayman Islands. And provide you with some vacation tips on what to see and fashion ideas on what to pack on your summer getaway.
Tokyo is one of the most exciting cities in the world. With a population of over 13M people, it is easy to find yourself constantly energized with the vibrancy of the city. This colorful locale has an endless list of places to eat, shrines and temples to visit, and shops and boutiques to empty your wallet!
According to cheapair.com, the best time to book your flight for the lowest airfare would be 318 days in advance of your trip. That is almost a year out! Don’t worry if you haven’t secured your airplane tickets yet. You can still find reasonable prices by using tools like Hopper app to help track decreases in airfare.
What to Pack for Your Tokyo Summer Vacation
When packing for your Tokyo trip, you’ll want to bring items that are comfortable and stylish. Fashion is a part of the culture and while t-shirts and shorts are perfectly fine, if you would like to blend in more with the locals we recommend bringing a few nicer pieces to mix and match with your basics.
For something a bit more street style inspired, try packing a cute crop top like our Day to Night knit top and pair it with a high-waist skirt and our Sporty Stripe tights. The tights give the illusion of knee-socks but stay up all day. Then add some fun accessories like a graphic tote bag, circular sunnies, and our Berry Cool headband.
If your style is minimal, you might like our Pleats to Meet You top and Modern Skort. Both pieces are solid but also stand out because of their perfect pleating. Add some black sandals and a baseball cap to finish off your look!
Our top 3 Tokyo must do activities are:
Shop at Shibuya 109 department store. Here you can find a unique selection of clothing and accessories. Each of the mini-boutiques inside the mall has very distinct styles. It’s an excellent space to get inspiration from the fashion-forward shop girls, even if you don’t plan on purchasing anything. Hop across the street to 109 Men for a selection of men’s items and then have a chiffon pancake at Hoshino Coffee.
Eat a bowl of Ramen. Our recommendation is Ichiran! It’s a unique experience because you can eat in the privacy of your very own stall. The servers are behind a tall curtain/wall, and each stall has a little window that is big enough to slip your ramen through. At most ramen shops you pay before you dine. There will be a machine outside where you can insert money and make your selection. If you can’t read Japanese, Ichiran offers English menus if you ask the staff.
Visit Meiji Shrine. According to Time.com, this famous Shinto shrine is wonderfully serene and austere, not colorful or flashy like other Asian places of worship, and is less of a tourist trap than Senso-Ji, the big Buddhist temple across town in Asakusa. Make sure to stop at the cleansing station where you can purify your hands and mouth before offering prayer. Simply look to your neighbor if you are unsure of what to do. You can also write wishes on little pieces of paper and tie them to the prayer wall.
The rich and exciting history of Rome make it an incredible city with lots to explore. There are a plethora of lovely cafes to enjoy, beautiful sidewalks to stroll and breath-taking structures to admire. It is easy to spend your days wandering the streets and getting lost in all of the charming alleys. It’s even easier to get swept away by the romanticism of the culture; beautiful relics that give us a glimpse into the past and epic tales of heroism and valor.
According to Cheapair.com, the best time to book your trip to Europe is 276 days out. However, we have found incredibly affordable travel packages by setting an alert on Travelzoo.com and looking for ‘last minute’ vacation deals.
What to Pack for Your Rome Summer Vacation
When packing for your vacation in Rome, you will want to pack light, comfortable clothing that will easily take you from daytime site seeing to early evening happy hour.
Our Sweet As A Rose blouse is perfect for your Roman Holiday. It’s light-weight enough to wear on those warm summer days but chic enough to take you to happy hour!
For something a bit more casual try a light weight button up. Our cotton Class Act top is the perfect travel companion. It’s airy and soft, with a touch of structure to give it a modern feel. Pair it with comfy linen shorts or some black cigarette pants for an Audrey Hepburn vibe.
Don’t forget to pack the perfect shirtdress. Our Shirt Dress for Success has adjustable sleeves so that you can wear it day and night. It will go perfectly with your Chuck Taylors when you’re exploring the streets or nude heels for a 5-course meal.
Our top 3 Rome must do activities are:
Visit the Colosseum. The largest amphitheater ever built should not be missed. The fact that much of the structure is still standing is not only awe-inspiring but also a testament to the skill and craftsmanship that went into building the structure. Make sure to arrive early as lines can get very long during peak seasons.
Window shop around Piazza di Spagna. Home to flagship stores of Italian designer lines like Prada, Gucci, Etro, Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta, Missoni, Versace, and Tod’s. You’ll feel like you are on a luxurious Roman Holiday, as you stroll the Piazza admiring stunning couture garments and stopping at an Italian cafe to enjoy an espresso.
Enjoy aperitivo Happy Hour! Usually, between 5pm – 7pm, this is the time before dinner when many bars serve complimentary stuzzichini (snacks) and canapés to enjoy with a glass of wine. You can easily hop from one bar to the next sampling all of the different fares, and honestly, can get quite full! It is easily one of the most fun ways to get acquainted with the area you are staying in.
Visiting Grand Cayman Island
When looking for an Island getaway, we tend to look for locations that are a little less frequented by the masses. This way we can enjoy a more relaxing, less crowded beach vacation. Grand Cayman is perfect for this! Rent an AirBnB on the beach and you’ll find yourself in one of the most beautiful and underrated tropical locations in the world. With pure white sand and crystal clear water you’ll never want to leave.
According to Cheapair.com trips to the Carribean only need to be booked 144 days out, so now is the perfect time to start looking for flights.
What to Pack for Your Grand Cayman Summer Vacation
Besides your fave swimsuits, you’ll want to make sure you have a couple cute tops and cover-ups on hand. These are great options for hotel hopping and evening dinners.
We recommend packing a great multi-purpose shift dress, like our Make A Statment Dress, that you can quickly toss on after a day at the beach and also wear when dining out or bar hopping.
Pack a cute blouse in a vibrant hue like this Beyond Amaze-mint blouse. A colorful top is a great piece that pairs nicely with a cute pair of beige linen shorts or white cropped pants for a dressier look.
You can never bring too many cover-ups when vacationing at the beach. That’s why our Smooth Sailing Tunic is perfect for your getaway. It’s both classy and comfortable, with a unique asymmetrical collar that will look fantastic with contrasting bikini neck straps.
Our top 3 Grand Cayman must do activities are:
Drink fresh coconut juice. You can find fresh coconut juice all over the island. We recommend purchasing one from a street vendor, not only will you get to taste the wonderfully sweet juice but you’ll also get a mini show as he/she trims the coconuts right before your eyes!
Walk along Seven Mile Beach. This is one of the most popular beaches in Grand Cayman. Spend the day walking along the shore and stopping at hotel bars and restaurants to enjoy yummy snacks and tasty frozen daiquiris along the way. There are also places where you can rent jet skis and other water sports equipment to go off on a mid-afternoon adventure.
Eat at a fish fry shack. If you want to taste one of the freshest most delicious fish fry’s, make sure you stop into one of the many shacks all around the island. Our favorite is Heritage Kitchen, just beware of the Iguanas lurking in the palms. Also, be sure to try the accompanying breadfruit, which is the fruit of the island.
This concludes our guide to summer vacation travel ideas and fashion tips! From the city to the beach we’ve explored 3 beautiful destinations to kick off your summer vacation plans. We hope you have fun planning your next adventurous getaway.
